What does "Data Parent" mean?

Good day,

What does the Data Parent option do when creating a new question? I can't
seem to find info on https://confluence.dimagi.com.

Regards,
André

Hi Andre,

This is a particularly finicky property that is difficult to explain
outside of the XForms data model
https://www.w3.org/TR/2003/REC-xforms-20031014/ that CommCare uses for
our form interactions.

Essentially a node having a "Data Parent" decouples the representation of
the XML element representing the question's data from the
element representing the question in the user interface structure.

It exists largely for compatibility with unusual forms which are valid
XForms that otherwise wouldn't be capable of being loaded in our form
editor, we strongly recommend against using it.
