I know others have posted this before, and I've read through and applied
the recommendations, but still am having trouble. Essentially, I've enabled
auto gps location in my app, added a hidden value to my form, set the
calculation to /data/meta/location, and put the case detail property
'location' to appear on the details.
People have said if the form filling goes too fast, then auto gps won't
have time to capture the location and so the case details won't show the
gps. To test this, I waited a full 5 minutes (plenty of time for the auto
gps capture) before finishing the form. However, the gps location still
didn't appear.
Help please! I don't think the time lag is the problem here...
I'd ideally be able to run gps in the background using auto gps while
filling out the forms, and then have the location show in the case details.

Have you used the GPS in your current location outside of CommCare yet, and
let the phone's location service hone in on your rough location?
Some GPS's take a long time to "cold start" for the first time in their
current locale (find the right satellites to expect to talk to, get the
appropriate cell tower info to triangulate, etc).
One useful thing to try would be to add a non-automatic question to a form
and see what information it gives you about your current GPS locale and its
accuracy. In some areas the GPS accuracy can't get better than the default
minimum autogps point (so it never ends up recording), but you can
configure CommCare to use a lower resolution if that turns out to be the
case.
