Is there a way to install or use the app directly on a laptop to fill out surveys? Our team will be conducting technical visits, and since some open-ended questions require lengthy answers, typing on a keyboard would be much more efficient. I’m aware of emulators, but a more native or direct approach would be ideal. Thanks!

Great news — yes, you can use CommCare directly on a laptop through a web browser! CommCare offers a feature called Web Apps (also known as CloudCare) that allows you to fill out forms on desktop or laptop computers without needing an emulator.
How to Access Web Apps
- Log into CommCare HQ with your web user account
- Look for the "Web Apps" menu link at the top of the interface
- From there, you can select and fill out your surveys using a keyboard and browser
This is perfect for your use case where you need to type lengthy answers to open-ended questions during technical visits!
Important Notes
- Web Apps requires an active internet connection — offline functionality for web apps is no longer supported
- You'll need proper permissions — if you don't see the "Web Apps" menu option, check with your project administrator to ensure your web user account has the correct permissions and subscription level to access this feature
- The feature works through a service called Formplayer, which should be enabled on most CommCare projects by default
