Unrecoverable Error

I created new mobile users and do NOT want their cases to be shared.
Because there is no case sharing needed, I didn't create or add them to a
group (however, there is one group whose members share their casesm- and
this is working well). For the new mobile users that are not in a group, I
keep on receiving the following error message:

"The case sharing settings for your user are incorrect. This user must be
in exactly one case sharing group. Please contact your supervisor".

Just to test if it works, I followed the CommCareHQ instructions to the dot
(Case Sharing - CommCare Public - CommCare Public) and added
the new users to an existing group; and to a new case sharing group. I keep
on receiving the same error message. Please help.

Thanks!

Hi Brian,

Even if you do now want these users cases shared, you'll still need to add
them to a case sharing group if you have case sharing on for you
application. If you don't want their cases shared you can create one group
per user.

Once you've done this please make sure you sync the phone with our server
to download the latest case sharing information for the user.

Thanks,
Sheel

I got the same error even if the user is in a group. Could it because of
the server syncing delay?

Jiehua,

Are you sure that the group the user is in is "case sharing" group rather
than a "reporting" group?

Additionally, are you sure that the user is in only one case sharing
group?

Jiehua,

I see. The organizations (locations) is in most ways our expected
"replacement" more or less for the way that groups work which is somewhat
more reflective of people's real workflows.

Each Location can be set to act as an implicit case sharing group, meaning
that users who are in a group will end up in two. You can read a bit more
about it here:

https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/Case+Sharing+using+Organizations

Would using locations as your case sharing group be a viable option instead
of an explicit case sharing group?

Glad to hear it! It sounds like that's the best way forward then, let us
know if you have any trouble using the organizations structure to set up
case sharing in the app. In general we think it should be providing more
value than the old case sharing group structure, so good to hear that it's
a good fit for your work.
