Tableau & CommCare Integration

Hi,

I work for a small nonprofit that uses Tableau to visualize our data. We
recently started using CommCare to gather data from the field and it would
be great to have a simple way to connect CommCare to Tableau without having
to download from CommCare and manipulate data much. Someone in Tableau told
me CommCare actually uses Tableau currently, but not sure in what way. Does
anyone have any recommendations on the best/simplest Tableau/CommCare setup?

Thank you!
Carla

Hello,

Most other organizations who've done this have used the commcare data export
https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/CommCare+Data+Export+Tool
tool to pull data into a local SQL database, and then hook that up as a
data source to Tableau. I believe it works quite seamlessly once you set it
all up, though might require some technical support configuring the export
tool.

FYI, the data export tool requires API access which is a paid standard
feature.

I believe that setting up an excel file to automatically pull data from an
export similar to how it is described in our excel dashboard docs
https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/Tutorial%3A+Create+an+Excel+Dashboard
might also work if there's an easy way to link that to tableau.

Thank you Cory. The data export tool will do the job, but I am not able to
reproduce exactly what I need. I will paste my question here and also
create a new thread since is a separate topic from Tableau.

I have 2 main forms for my cases: a Patient Registration form and a Visits
form. The first time a patient comes into the clinic the doctor registers
the patient and then on each subsequent visit the doctor submits only a
Visits form. The report I am trying to produce (with the data export tool)
is a list of all patients but also including all their visits. We need
previous visits information in order to tell if they are progressing as
needed, coming to appointments when they should, getting treatment in
order, etc. If I export cases then I get a row per patient and only
information on the latest visit. If I export forms then I get all visits
but these are not tied to a specific patient/case. Exporting the two forms
(registration and visits) by separate would work, but only if there is a
unique identifier that links the two forms (like the case id). However, I
believe the identifiers for forms are completely different than the
identifiers for cases, so I am not sure how to proceed. I could create a
hidden value in the Visits form and treat the Full Name of the patient as
the identifier, but I would like to avoid that.

I appreciate any pointers!

Thanks,
Carla

Hi All,

You may have already received an email from us about this, but wanted to update here for good measure.

Last week we launched our most direct integration with PowerBi and Tableau ever! :point_down:t5:

All CommCare users on Advanced and Enterprise subscription plans now have access to this new integration. Pro plan users can also add these integrations to their subscription for a small fee.

Want to upgrade your Community, Standard or Pro subscription? Please reach out to me at dmore@dimagi.com to discuss!

Thanks,
