SMS in Myanmar

Dear all,

Has anyone already experienced the SMS sending feature from CommCare in Myanmar ? How complicated is it to setup ? How much does it cost per SMS ?

Many thanks !

Hi Charles,

Yes, other users have setup SMS projects with CommCareHQ in Myanmar. If
your project is only using outbound SMS, you might be able to use one of
the international gateways in CommCareHQ. But, as is mentioned on the SMS
Connectivity page, sending international SMS isn't always as reliable as
having a local gateway.

So to increase the reliabilty of outbound SMS (or if your project requires
two-way SMS interaction), then you'll need to setup a Telerivet Android
Gateway
https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/Setup+an+Android+SMS+Gateway
(costs
described on that page). Other than that, everything will be the same as
any other SMS project.

Thanks,
Giovanni

Hey Giovanni,

Thanks for the hint. Price is $1 / SMS, isn't it ?

Hi Charles,

The per SMS cost for Telerivet would depend on the messaging plan you
choose for the Android, but I would be very surprised if it got even close
to 1 USD per SMS (most likely its cents per SMS, though as I said it can
vary). There is also an additional $0.01 per SMS charge as described here
https://www.commcarehq.org/pricing/.

The other costs for Telerivet include buying the Android itself and the
Telerivet subscription (which might be free depending on your needs).

Thanks,
Giovanni
