Several issues in the process of learning CommConnect

Hello all -- I am continuing to use the CommCareHQ help materials to try
to learn CommConnect. For this, I am using the pages linked to from
https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/CommConnect-+SMS+in+CommCare
. Here are the problems I am arriving at.

Note that my current goal is to build a practice app that simply has, in a
registration form, (1) a mobile telephone number, so that each client
entered into the app has a phone number entered in a field, and (2) a date
field saying "appointment reminder date." This app would then send an
SMS reminder to a person's mobile number on the date entered in their
reminder date field, and the SMS would say "remember your appointment is
today!"

Issues and questions:

1-- From the CommCarePublic help page I link to above, it seems clear that
a page that could guide me through that kind of app would be the Pregnancy
Messaging application... that is described in the help page
https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/Pregnancy+Messaging
. However, when I succeeded in installing that example app from the
Exchange [I did so into an *existing *project, because downloading it to create a *new* project wouldn't give me the 30 day trial], and followed the
directions in that help page, it told me to *go to Messaging: Reminders to
view the default reminder setup. * However, when I do that, I do not see
the five or six reminders that the help page tells me that I will see.
Instead, the reminder list is totally empty... so I can't learn from it.
Can you tell me why that appears empty? Is it related to my having imported
the app to an existing project? Note, the project showing this problem is
https://www.commcarehq.org/a/pregnancy-messaging/apps/view/cce0e60fdcc8f19d02296bb095472d0b/
...
ALSO, I noticed that when I had attempted to import the Pregnancy app
from the Exchange the other way, namely to create into a whole new app
(which I had to abandon because it didn't start the 30 day trial), the
interface winds up behaving differently -- namely: The top tab that is
usually called Applications is in this case called Surveys. From that,
something is telling me that there is real significance in the difference
between those two methods of downloading from Exchange, and maybe I really
need the 30-day trial to be activated for *this *one that was created by
making a whole new app when I carried out the Exchange download. So, for
your info, this was the project that I did that "whole new app" method,
which I aborted and which shows that behavior where the top tab is called
"surveys:"
https://www.commcarehq.org/a/commconnect-testing/apps/view/2050997ac66b9af6bc600a6077b1b364/

2-- So, I tried to go to another help document that could help me in my
intended learning. I thought "Sending a date based reminder" document might
guide me. So I went to that page which is
https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/Sending+a+Date-Based+Reminder
. However, following those instructions, I again see things in the app
that don't correspond to what the document tells me. Under "Setup the
reminder," after giving it a name, the document tells me that the first
section is called 'Start." In reality the first section is called
"Trigger," and all the remaining fields/steps, there isn't agreement
between the help page and the app I'm seeing. Is this help page outdated
with regards to the new function of the page? If it is outdated, could
you update that page? I'm hoping to pick up these skills...

3-- Even so, that help page I mention in item 2 is actually describing how
to have a reminder be sent to the *health worker. *But I want my reminder
to be sent to the people stored in the forms, using the mobile number (and
dates) stored in the fields of the form. Which is the best help document
that explains the procedure of configuring CommCare messaging to send a
reminder to the people stored in my app's data, not a health worker?

Thank you much for your help!
Eric

Hey Eric,

Unfortunately the CommConnect documentation is a bit out of date (we will
be updating it soon)

Let's discuss this offline. Can help you figure out how to setup your app
while we update our documentation.

Thanks

I would be interested in seeing the outcome of your dicussion. I am trying
to set up SMS as part of the regristrationn process (Phone number is being
gathered at regristration time). The intent would be to send both Education
material and appt reminders.

Hi Paul -- I will be revisiting the CommConnect question in the upcoming
couple weeks. I'll likely use this thread to kick off the questions that I
will pepper Dimagi with about the process. Let's see how it goes --

Hey Eric,

Just sent you a direct email. Apologize about the issues you're facing,
but it looks like there is a bug in copying reminders over the Exchange
into your project. We'll let you know when its addressed.

Thanks,
