Sending application to phones

Hi,

Last week I was demonstrating some users of my CommCare application
here in Malawi, how, when I send an updated version of the application
to their phones through CommCare HQ, they can download this onto their
phone and restore their user data from the server. As a result of this
I have two questions that I hope someone might be able to help me with

  1. The users I work with use the Chichewa, rather than the English
version of the application. However, when I send the application to
their phones, it downloads by default in the English version, which
requires someone logging in as admin to change the language to
Chichewa. I was therefore wondering whether there is a way that I can
either send the application to download on their phones in Chichewa,
or otherwise for users (rather than admin users) to be able to change
the main language of the application themselves?

  2. The phone automatically offers to download the file into the Games
folder, is there any way to select the destination of where the file
goes and have it downloaded onto the memory card instead?

Thanks!

Hi Marije,

  1. In CommCareHQ, when you click on the name of the application, you should
see a screen which lists "Supported Languages". The first language in this
list is the default language of the application. It's currently set to
English, which is why your app downloads by default to English. You can
alter this by reordering the list of languages so that Chichewa is on top.

  2. Unfortunately, there's no way to change where the application downloads.
Most phones allow you to copy an application from one location to another
(try hitting the "options" softkey when the app is highlighted), so you can
copy it from games to the memory card that way. Just in case you're
interested, though, we've been getting a lot of good feedback about keeping
the application on the phone's local memory rather than the memory card --
it's much less likely that the application becomes corrupted, or that a CHW
    will accidentally delete it.

Hope this helps!
Amelia
