Retaining variable order in export

Hi Commcare-users:

When exporting a form from CommCareHQ (using the "Export Submissions to
Excel" function), is it possible to retain the order of the variables as
defined in the form? Currently, the export process seems to sort the
variables alphabetically. I know that a workaround would be to name the
variables alphanumerically, but I'm hoping there's a solution for an
already defined form.

Hi Scott,

This is a much-requested feature that we are hoping to get to in the near
future.

In the meantime, you can create a custom export. Custom exports not only
let you choose which form data you want in your export, but you can also
click & drag the variables in the export into whatever order you want.
(You have to figure out the order yourself, though, unfortunately!)
