Publishing the Apps

Hi,

I have a few doubts on publishing the application to the mobile phones.
Kindly seek your advice:

• I have transferred the application files using “Bluetooth” on a 2730-C
phone. I have deleted the previous commcare application on the phone,
before transferring the new one. Can two applications co-exist in the same
phone? (Eg: one app for the “Pregnancy” and the other one for
“monitoring-tools”)?

• Is it possible for me to rename the application, so that the user can
open the correct application? As of now, everything shows it as “CommCare”.

• I have transferred the application using Bluetooth. But the same is
shown inside the “Gallery” folder. If I need to move it to the “Apps”
folder, how do we do it? We would also like to create a short-cut for the
same in the home-page of the phone.

I also tried to transfer the application to an Android Phone (v2.3). I
have installed the ODK and then installed the application to it. However,
I am not able to login to the application (using admin) and it gives me the
error "Authentication failed on server, please check credentials and try
again". I am using the same build version on 2730-C and the "admin" login
is accepted there.

Kindly seek your help and support on these and thanks in advance for the
quick help.

Warm Regards,
Jeffrey

Hi,

Yes, two applications can exist in the same phone but they need to be
under two different folders. So, on your phone, go to Menu, Applications
and you will see different folders such as Games, Collections etc. You can
create a new folder here. Click on options and create/add a new folder and
rename the folder (ex: commcare-pregnancy) based on which application you
wish to have inside that.

• Is it possible for me to rename the application, so that the user can
open the correct application? As of now, everything shows it as “CommCare”.

Im afraid you wont be able to do that but more importantly you wouldnt

need to do that. Creating a new folder and renaming it as I mentioned above
is the best way to operate on two applications on the same phone.

• I have transferred the application using Bluetooth. But the same is
shown inside the “Gallery” folder. If I need to move it to the “Apps”
folder, how do we do it? We would also like to create a short-cut for the

In the

Once you have transferred the file on to your phone using Bluetooth, You
can navigate to the gallery folder and then to the application file. Click
on Options and you will see an option to "move". On clicking move, you can
choose the destination folder which could be Apps or the the specific
folder you created in the earlier steps. One of the better ways to transfer
application flies is by using the memory card of your phone. Plug it into
the computer that has the application files and transfer them on to the
memory card. Then, place the Memory card back into your phone and move the
application file from the memory card to the appropriate folder you created.

Regarding Shortcut, I am giving you the steps on the Nokia C-02, but i
assume it wont be too different on your phone.
Go to Settings -> My Shortcuts->

You will get options such as Left Selection key and Right Selection Key
(these are two buttons above the answer call and end call buttons
respectively)
Choose either of the keys and you will get a long list of all the
applications on your phone.
Scroll Up/Down to find a folder named "Application List". Under that you
will find the commcare application. Select the application you wish to have
as a shortcut

Warning: If you have multiple applications, all of them will show as
CommCare. So, after creating the shortcut, you need make a manual check as
to which shortcut opens which app.

You can also change the default up/down/left/right buttons which open
camera/contacts etc to open a commcare app by following the above steps.

I also tried to transfer the application to an Android Phone (v2.3). I
have installed the ODK and then installed the application to it. However,

Admin feature is not supported on the Andoid version of the app. One can
only login with actual user credentials that was assigned to them on that
domain.
