I am thrilled to announce that we have released new updates to User Management in CommCare to further customize how projects use Custom User data (or User Fields) and App User Profiles (or Profiles).
User Fields in CommCare offer a way to store additional information on users. In the current state, the user fields share the same settings between the two user types (Web user and Mobile worker). This means once marked required, a user field appears mandatory for both user types.
Profiles consist of one or more User Fields with pre-set values. They are used to automatically give the user the values defined in the profile. Currently, it is not possible to mark User Profiles as ‘required’ while creating or editing a user.
This new change makes it possible to make User Fields and Profiles required for a specific user type (Web user, Mobile worker, or Both).
