Problem updating cases

Hi Users Group,

I'm working on the social apps project this summer in Senegal. Before
lanuching the app, I added several questions to the user registration form,
but didn't add case properties. So there was data missing in the case
export.

I'm now trying to update the cases with the information that was saved when
users filled out the registration form, but didn't get saved to the cases
for the case export.

I exported the registration form from HQ and followed the steps on the help
site- I deleted the columns I didn't want to update, including the
info.form.id column.

In the identifying cases to update/ create section on HQ, I used
info.case.id for excel column and then case ID for corresponding case
field. Although I thought I should be using the 'existing case ID' option
instead of the 'using case id' option, there seemed to be no alternative to
using the case id.

When I exported the cases to see if the new information is there, the info
for all the columns that were originally missing is still missing so it
doesn't look like it worked. I don't want to play around with it now and
mess up the data.

I am attaching the file I uploaded.

If you have any advice about how I can update the cases I would really
appreciate it!

Thanks,

Vicki

Registration Form Submissions 2003.xls (119 KB)

Hi Vicki,

Have you tried looking up a case on CommCareHQ in the Case List Report to
confirm that it worked? I would recommend first trying to update just one
or two cases to confirm that the import is working as you anticipated.

Your general approach sounds right, and you do want to map the info.caseid
field from your file to caseID on CommCareHQ.

In case you want to "undo" a case import you can go to the Submit History
report, select "Unknown Users" in the filter, and then you will see form
submissions representing the Excel Importer action. You can then archive
these forms to reverse any changes.

Hope this helps,

Jeremy
