My CommCare Learning Journey (Beginner, Feedback Welcome!)

Hello everyone :waving_hand:

I’m fairly new to CommCare and currently learning through self-teaching, documentation and hands-on practice. As I learn, I plan to share articles, guides and notes here in the forum.

Why I’d like to share

  • To document my learning journey and reinforce my understanding
  • To help other beginners who may be learning similar concepts
  • To spark discussion around practical use cases and common challenges
  • To contribute back to the community, even as a learner

What I’d really appreciate from the community

  • Corrections or clarifications if I misunderstand anything
  • Tips, best practices or alternative approaches
  • Pointers to related resources or examples
  • Feedback on how concepts are applied in real-world projects

First share

My first share focuses on XPath Expressions in CommCare:

This write-up summarizes key XPath concepts and examples as I understand them so far. I plan to share the corresponding XML file later once it’s complete.

Please feel free to jump in, comment or guide me if anything I share can be improved. I’m very open to learning and grateful for the collective knowledge in this forum.

Thank you, and I look forward to learning from all of you!

Hello everyone

Following on from my earlier post, I'm starting to share the study notes I've been putting together on CommCare. This is a living document; I'll keep updating and expanding it as I continue learning, so please treat it as a work in progress rather than a finished guide.

To start, I'm sharing the first few notes from it, with more to follow as I go. You can find them here: CommCare Study Notes

As always, corrections, tips, and feedback are very welcome.

On a separate note, I'm also open to work and new opportunities where complex systems, data, and field operations intersect. You can connect with me on LinkedIn: Peter Otieno
