Missing data

Hi,

I have come across a major problem. Some of my data is going missing… we
enter it via the android phone but there is no record of it on the server.
This has now happened on 3 occasions and I cannot risk using the phones any
longer. Sometimes it is a whole case gone missing, sometimes just some
forms in a case.

I wondered if it is something we are doing wrong or something that can be
fixed? One of the case, I could even see the forms on the phone under
’saved’ but they were not present on the server. and sometimes when I sync
the phones it says ‘information on server and phones doesnt match. Starting
recovery’ (or something similar) … perhaps this is where the data is
going missing?

I am using android phones with internet bundles so that forms should be
sent straight to the server. If the internet package has run out the
phones are synced on the wifi at the end of the day.

Please help. I am currently reverting to paper.

That’s very unexpected to lose data. Please could you give me some more
information to help diagnose what’s going on. Please could you give me the
following information:

  • When did this happen?
  • Which user did this happen for?
  • Was it a specific form? If so which form?

Hi Simon,

Its not any forms in particular. Yesterday we had a case come in for follow
up and her base line information had been entered in the field, however her
case number did not appear in the list on the phones and she didnt appear
when I searched her in the case list. So we had to start again. I ensured
that all the phones were synced and still no sign of it. This data was
enetered on the 26th Novemeber and was not present on 28th november.

The other missing one was the follow up forms - there are arounf 6 forms to
be completed on follow up and I was present when we did the measurements
and entered them and yet when I checked the case list a few days later on
the computer, the information is not there, only the forms we do at
baseline are there. The baseline stuff was done on 21st nov and follow up
on 25th nov… which has gone. Another child which we followed up that day
was fine, all the data is there.

I only have 5 phones but I have a lot of forms. Sometimes 2 of the phones
are logged in as the same person because the staff havent bothered to log
out and log back in again - would that cause a problem?

and the phones often have little notifications on them saying that there is
a problem with the device log… is that the problem?

and as I said, on one occasion I could see the forms under ‘saved’ and yet
they weren;t on the computer and when I opened theses forms on the phones,
an error notification said that some forms could not be recovered which was
likely due to a build error… but there is not build error because these
forms usually work fine…

sorry for all this informaton - I cant work out any pattern for it yet…

Please how was this resolved as i am facing almost the same issue at the moment. The data doesn’t show up in the server for some users and also they aren’t showing up when they attempt to conduct a follow up.
