Issues when Uploading Audio Files

Hi,

We are struggling with the upload of audio files into forms.

Basically we would like to upload audio A into form 1 and audio B into form
2. Most of the time the upload fails (Select file - Upload successful! -
back to Select file). When checking the Multimedia Map, the reference is
yellow and says "Upload file". When we click on "Upload file", the screen
becomes gray but no menu opens.

However the few times the upload did succeed, the same audio file was
uploaded into both forms 1 and 2, overwriting the successful upload into
the other question.

Throughout this process, not a single error message was displayed. CommCare
just does not compute the information - no matter which
computer/browser/network/country we try from.

Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this? Is it related to the
uploaded file path?

Thanks for your help

Hello,

Sorry to hear that you are running into these issues!

I just tested some audio file uploads and did not encounter an issues, but
if you run into any problem when uploading files please report an issue
from CommCareHQ. If you have very large file sizes sometimes an interrupted
internet connection can cause a problem. How big are the files you are
trying to upload?

One thing to be aware of is that each file has a default filepath that is
generated when you add the audio reference in the form builder. For
example, if I have a question called patient_name and add an audio file,
the default file name is jr://file/commcare/audio/data/patient_name.mp3

You can see this file path by clicking on "Advanced: Show Path" in the form
builder next to the multimedia reference.

If you have two questions in two different forms with the same question id,
by default they will have the same filepath. As such, uploading a file in
one place will overwrite the other one. This is sometimes useful if you
want to share an audio file across forms, but can also be confusing if not
what you want. In those cases modifying the path will prevent the
overwriting

I'm not sure if this is applicable to your specific situation but wanted to
provide that additional information.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

As you mentioned, my question id's were the same, which I have now fixed.

Even when that was done, CommCare kept on circling (Select file - Upload
successful! - back to Select file).

I have tried over and again, always with the same result, until it finally
worked. I have no idea what caused it to work in the end, but now it works.

Thank you very much for your help!

Florence
