Images/Video in SMS

HI All,

I am wondering about whether image or video messages are supported in
two-SMS features. We are thinking about a project that would involve
sending some PSA type information and also small mood checkins and using
images or videos (or links to videos) would be particularly useful.

Thanks so much!!
Emily

Hi Emily,

We don't currently support sending multimedia in SMS. Also note that the
adoption of this feature would be very dependent on which country you'd
like to use it in since not all SMS gateways would support it.

If you'd like to advocate for multimedia in SMS, please see our UserVoice
page here https://dimagi.uservoice.com/forums/194745-messaging.

As an interim workaround, if you have the link to the multimedia, you could
send the link in an SMS.

Thanks,
Giovanni

So just to be clear, no images could be sent? We would be working in the US
but on an American Indian reservation.

Thanks so much!!

Hi Emily,

That's correct, at the moment we do not support sending images or other
multimedia in SMS. But as a workaround you can send a link to an image, for
example.

Thanks,
Giovanni

Great thanks for the info! Is there a link to something I can see where
two-way SMS is demonstrated? I just want to be able to see its features.

Thanks again!

Hi Emily,

Our online documentation
https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/CommCare+Messaging+-+SMS+and+IVR
describes the functionality available with messaging. Specifically, for
two-way (interactive) SMS, you can have a look at the sections on creating
keywords
https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/Keywords+Tutorial and
surveys
https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/SMS+Survey+Tutorial.

Thanks,
Giovanni
