Custom Export Improvements

Dear CommCare Users,

We've gotten a lot of feedback about Custom Exports in the last 6 months
and finally made some changes and enhancements that should make setting up
your data exports much nicer.

New features include:

  • Allowing you to export case history in a custom case export
  • Allowing you to export repeats (such as children in a delivery form) in
    a custom form export
  • Fields in a new form export now show up in the order the questions
appear in the form, with meta data coming afterwards.

If you want to benefit from the new smarter ordering but already have a
custom export, it may be easiest to start from a new export: the nice
default ordering only applies to fields that you have not yet selected.

Cheers,
Danny

Hi Danny,

Thanks to you and the team for these very helpful updates.

I have just tried to create a new custom export to take advantage of this
(in particular I have repeat data that I would like to include). For some
reason though the fields are not in the order in the form (nor are they in
alphabetical order!) and I can't see the repeat fields either. Is there
something that I need to do to activate these changes?

Thanks

Jenny

Hi Jennifer,

You can find the repeat data at the bottom of the custom export screen,
under a separate "repeat" checkbox that you can optionally enable. I just
took a peek at a custom export of your delivery form and saw it was there.
I'm also seeing the questions appear in the order they are in the form.
Unfortunately, this nice ordering does not apply to questions in repeats,
so data under the repeat checkbox will not be in the correct order.

If you are seeing something that seems like a bug, please let us know via
the "Report an Issue" button.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
Amelia

Hi Amelia,

Thanks, I have looked again but there is no option for repeats at the
bottom of the custom exports screen and the fields are still in a strange
order. I looked at the 'delivery' form you mentioned (which isn't one of
my forms, it's the one that you develop if you go through the wiki on how
to create an app) and the repeat option is there! I am trying to create a
custom export for the 'antenatal questionnaire' - can you see if you can
see the repeat option there and if not why not?

Thanks

Jenny
