Completed Survey Registers

I´m finding that my community trainers´ cell phones are getting very slow,
freezing, and causing CommCare to stop running. I´m wondering if it might
have to do with all of the surveys that stay in the "saved" section of the
app. I´m referring to surveys that have already been synced with the
server, but leave a register on the phone. After a year of working on the
project with data registry in CommCare, tThey easily have a thousand
surveys on there at this point.

It seems like I can delete them one by one from the phone, but that would
take an eternity. I can´t find an option to mass delete. Is there a way to
do that? And do you think that might help with the problems we are
experiencing?

Thanks.

Hi Mallory,

You can get rid all of these forms by clearing user data. You can do this
by following these steps:
1 - Log in
2 - Click on the 3 dots (or settings button)
3 - Select Advanced
4 - Choose Clear User Data
This will delete all data, log the user out, and restore the app as if the
user had never logged in before.

Note that this will completely wipe all user data on the phone, including
any pending/not submitted or incomplete forms, so be sure to submit
anything you need before doing this. In addition, if you have case data
then it will be downloaded to the device again after first logging in,
which will require internet connectivity.

For the future you can set up the application to keep saved forms for a set
interval of time. This is done in the application settings, under Android
Settings -> Days for Review. The application would need to be deployed
again for this setting to take effect.

Hope this helps!

Hi Mallory,

Piggybacking a bit on Jeremy's Response, I'd recommend configuring the
period with with saved forms are saved (v. purged) on HQ first, and syncing
that app update down to the users before wiping any data manually.

Updating the Saved Form retention period should result in those forms being
eliminated on a future login without needing to wipe user data manually,
and will prevent any possible data integrity issues that could be created
by someone clearing user data with unsent forms.
