Has anyone ever successfully translated and deployed an app in Chinese?
We're thinking about doing this but are hesitant to do so if there isn't
some experience working in the country! We had some initial issues with a
field liaison downloading the app in country so just looking to see if this
is possible before we really push or make a decision!

We have had users approach us about using CommCare in China before, but I
couldn't speak to the specifics of their programs.
There are two specific elements about a program implementation in China
which we are aware of from past experiences and would want to make sure you
have considered for programmatic and technical reasons
First:
CommCare is a technology service that utilizes encryption and maintains
user accounts which allow people to share data. China has complex
requirements about the usage of encryption technology and digital data
sharing. Since an organization using CommCare is obligated to understand
and follow those conditions, we don't list CommCare on the Google play
store explicitly. You can still install and use CommCare's mobile app
manually using files downloaded directly from our open source repository:
Releases · dimagi/commcare-android · GitHub, but Dimagi doesn't
guarantee that any specific configuration or usage of the platform is
compliant with Chinese law.
Second:
For privacy and security, all of Dimagi's cloud hosted services use the
HTTPS protocol when communicating with browsers and devices, which prevents
data from being read while in transit. Devices brought into China
externally are not generally able to communicate with our cloud servers
directly without installing a "Certificate Authority" onto the device which
permits data to be read by the national service provider as it passes
between the two devices. Devices purchased in China already have this
certificate authority installed, and will work with our cloud out of the
box, but any data communicated with our server will also be readable by the
national authority.
