CommCare and ODK on the Same Device

Is it possible to have CommCare and ODK installed and functioning properly
on the same device? We have a use case in which we have simple ODK surveys
that have already been configured. We want to use CommCare as well, but are
worried that when we sync either CommCare or ODK, there might be sync
errors.

Thanks!
Lexa

Hey Lexa,

As far as I'm aware there are no issues with running CommCare and ODK
Collect on the same device.

Hi Will!

I just want to confirm your understanding that it should be fine to run
CommCare and ODK Collect on the same mobile device?

I ask because TaroWorks, a mobile data collection application also built on
ODK, says running ODK in parallel can cause data loss: "The installation of
TaroWorks on a device running ODK could cause unexpected behaviors
including data loss, as the TaroWorks application leverages the ODK Collect
platform." See the article here
https://taroworks.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/200168939-Actions-to-Avoid-while-Using-TaroWorks.
I was wondering if this raises any red flags or if this seems unique to
TaroWorks.

Gracias!
Aleksa

Hey Alaska,

I don't know of any existing conflicts with ODK-based applications,
particularly not any that would cause data loss. We encountered an issue in
the past that blocked installation alongside ODK Collect, but that's been
since resolved.

Cheers,
Will
