Cases from initial case import not being seen

Hi

I'm just about to launch a new app and I have purged the test data by
archiving all the forms.

Then I imported the new data using case import and that seemed to work with
the system reporting 1066 cases imported (see attached screenshot which
shows the case type VBA). I then purged the tablet of data and installed
the latest version of the app.

However, when I synced I didn't get any of the cases on the tablet.

When I try to use Reports > Case List the Case Type 'VBA' is not in the
drop down menu.

When I do a Case Export of VBA cases the file is empty except the correct
property names in the first row.

Help!

Thanks in anticipation.

Simon

Hi Simon, those cases are likely not owned by that mobile worker and so not
being sent to the phone.

You can use Reassign Cases in the Data section to assign them to the
correct user or group.

You could also do this with the Excel updater by updating the owner is
field with the commcare id of the user.

"owner is" = owner_id

Thanks Nick. I think that will solve the problem!

One more question, if I may. The mobile workers tablets contain test data
at the moment, ie the data we used to test the system and the cases they
created during training. As I mentioned in my original post, the forms that
created this data have now been archived so the cases no longer appear on
the server.

If the data were left on their tablets, what would happen the next time
they synced with the server? Would the data get sent to the server again
given that what's on the tablets is no longer on the server? Or would the
data be cleared from the tablets when they synced?

Hi Simon!

HQ triggers a special sync in some situations, two of which may be true
here:

  1. When syncing the phone and server coordinate on what cases and data
"should be" on the device according to the server., triggering that sync if
the current set disagrees with the expected set
  2. When certain operations on HQ are performed that the server knows will
be difficult or impossible to conduct the Check from step 1 accurately.

In the event that a special sync is needed, the phone sends all of the
pending data it has to the server, and then the server provides it with a
"clean" set of data for the user, rather than an "incremental" set of data.

In your case the cases will disappear from the device, and won't be
resubmitted to HQ, since the phone knows HQ has received the data, and it
assumes the cases were removed intentionally.
