Hello, Tewelde Aregawi,

You can certainly use CommCare for surveys, and it is especially useful for
longitudinal surveys. You can read some suggestions about workflows here
https://help.commcarehq.org/display/commcarepublic/Household+Survey+Workflows
and
can also design surveys in Excel
https://help.commcarehq.org/display/commcarepublic/Use+Excel+to+Build+CommCare+Forms
before uploading them into CommCare.

For the data you can export in xls or csv format, or can use the CommCare
Export Tool
https://help.commcarehq.org/display/commcarepublic/CommCare+Data+Export+Tool
to extract the data.

I have worked with some researchers that would just download the data
periodically and then upload it to stata and run a do file. Once a do file
has been written the format of the data coming from CommCare will remain
the same, so you can just run the file without modification as more data
comes into the system.

I hope this helps!

Jeremy

Dear Jeremy,

Hope you are doing well.I have designed the survey as you suggested me i.e
I have created 3 modules which is Registration,HH list,Family member list.

Registration holds two forms which are HH regisration and family member
registration.

HH list, Holds two forms, the first one is these questionnaires only belong
to HH called visit form and Edit registration.

Family member list module holds two forms which is these forms that belong
only to HH members such as wife or woman between the age group 15 and 49
and edit registartion

I have correctly linked these forms. But i am confusing in the data
exports. When i try to use form exports for data analysis cases are not
available.I can't figure out which form belongs to which case.

I need your advice how to take the submitted data to stata that is all
information with in one csv file.
With best regrads

Hi Tewelde,

There are two separate types of exports available in the Data section of
CommCareHQ. The Form Exports will be able to export the data exactly as it
was filled in on each form, and the Case Exports give you access to a
snapshot of the data that is in each case at the current time.

If you are looking to aggregate into a single export, you will want to use Case
Management
https://help.commcarehq.org/display/commcarepublic/Case+Management to
aggregate data from each consecutive form that's entered. Then, you will be
able to use the Case Export tool to export the cases of a certain type
(like Household Members in your example) in your project space.

Hope that helps,

Hi Jeremy,

I've been trying to write a do file on Stata for CommCare but there are a few issues I'm running into with naming and repeat groups. Is there any way I can connect with the researchers you've mentioned here?

Thanks,
Soha

Hi Soha,

I think your best way forward to identify people who have recent experience using CommCare in STATA would be to post your specific questions in a new thread here on the CommCare Forum.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Thanks Jeremy! Will try doing that.
