Apps for data security on tablets

Hi all,

When our Dimagi Field Manager initially set up our app, he also installed a
couple of additional applications on our study tablets for data security
purposes. One of them prevented the use of anything other than CommCare on
the tablet, and the other was to allow for remote wiping of data on the
tablet should it ever be lost or stolen.

Unfortunately we no longer know exactly which apps were used for these
purposes, and our efforts to find suitable apps haven't turned up anything
very promising.

I was wondering whether anyone could advise us on the best apps (or other
best practices) to use for these purposes?

Many thanks!
Julia

Dear Julia,

Not sure about the lockdown app, however Google is editing a pretty good
device locator / remote wiping: Android Device Manager

As long as your devices share a common Google ID, it works fine.

Regards,

Charles

Hey Julia,

Try MobiLock
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.promobitech.mobilock&hl=en
to set your device to KIOSK mode (allow users to only use specific apps).
It's a been a while since I used Mobilock but the free version was
sufficient.

Meraki https://meraki.cisco.com/products/systems-manager#features is a
great remote management tool that allows you to delete data off tablets
remotely, also track the devices, see what's installed, see battery life,
etc. Very big brother. But awesome at the same time. The free version
allows the management of 100 devices.

I've also found that "Child Mode" apps are useful for restricting the
entire phone to only use a few functions.

Example (not fully tested though)
