Additional questions about Form Forwarding API failures

Hello all – previously I got some great answers to my questions about form
forwarding API failures, at this thread:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/commcare-users/dfzNbGKjOxc

I had a few more questions about the failures, to follow up. I posted
them in that thread and then I remembered it’s better to post them in a new
thread. So, see below!

··· =====

One more question on these Form Forwarding errors. (Thanks much for your
help so far!)

Above, you said that form forwards are re-tried 3 times if a failure is
detected.

(For reference, my forwarding status screen currently shows: 49 pending …
1742 failure … 7896 success.)

– When three failures happen, what happens to that form in the
form-forwarding status screen?

– Are those “three-fails” the only ones that appear in the "failure"
column?

– Or do the “three-fails” disappear from the status screen tallies, and
"failure" means those forms that are still within their re-trying phase?

– What determines the duration between the 3 re-tries?

– I assume those tallies on the status screen will never be cleared or
reset? They will continue to climb higher and higher through the history of
my project?

huge thanks for your help!

Eric

Hi Eric,

After your previous email, we actually realized that there was an issue
with the form forwarders not stopping after 3 attempts. We are working to
fix this, and should have the fix in place by early next week. This is why
you have been seeing the tallies increasing, as we were retrying all failed
records.

Once the fix is complete, there will be a few new columns in the forwarders
report that will tell you how many times a particular record has failed. If
it has failed 3 times, it will go into a “canceled” state and you will be
able to re queue any records that you want to retry.

The time between each retry increases each time:
1st retry: 1 hour
2nd retry: 1.5 hours
3rd retry: 3.75 hours
The report should show you when the record will be tried next.

Hope that helps, and thank you for bringing this issue to our attention!
Sorry for any inconvenience it has caused you.

Best,

Farid Rener

Thanks… good info! I will see how the screen changes with your new fixes,
and I’ll see if that leaves me with any more questions.

When you improve that forwarding report… I guess that it will not go back
and retroactively correct the tallies for the past entries to show
accurate counts of which forms have successfully sent in the past, … will
it? When you make this new change… will it just reset all the tallies to
zero?

thx
