Additional J2ME phone recommendations

We've been successfully using CommCare on Nokia C2 phones; however, the
local (Guatemalan) telco is not currently carrying these models. Looking
at the current list of recommended Nokia phones [1], I only see C2 models
listed.

So, a couple of questions for this group:
1 - Can anyone recommended additional J2ME phones we should consider using
with CommCare 2?
2 - Does anyone have experience with souring Nokia C2 phones elsewhere
(e.g. US, UK) and successfully using them in your deployments?

[by the way, I see that CC 2 supports Nokia S60 as a build target, and
wonder if this means some Nokia S60 based phones are being used in
production....which we should consider using]

Unfortunately, there hasn't been a huge amount of experimentation on this
front!

There should be a huge corpus of phones which run CommCare 2 just fine from
Nokia. Anything which runs S40 with java (CLDC1.1 or above and MIDP2.0
above) and has 2mb of heap (or more) and a 1mb or greater jar size should
be fine.

There are a few things which may not work out of the box that we can do
some code work to fix. Things that might work out of the box or might not
include

  • Touchscreens
  • S40 qwerty phones
  • Phones with particularly unique screen sizes.

Unfortunately other than that it's a bit hard for us to say! I'm hoping
some intrepid souls out there have given this a shot on some newer phones
and have something to report back on.
