[Action Required] Preparing to upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)

On April 1, 2023, the OS version currently supported for CommCare installation, Ubuntu 18.04, will reach its end of life for support from its maintainer. In the coming weeks commcare-cloud will be updated to support installation on the latest Long Term Support version of Ubuntu, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish), which we will announce on this forum when it is ready. To give maintainers time to perform the upgrade, both OS versions will be supported concurrently for 3 months from the announcement, after which only Ubuntu 22.04 will be supported.

In the meantime, we wanted to give the community some lead time. Once ready, the upgrade procedure will require maintainers to take a full backup, shut down the machine, wipe it clean and install a fresh copy of Ubuntu 22.04, do a clean install of CommCare onto it, and then restore the data into it from backup. Documentation about this process may be found here. For maintainers whose backup and restore procedures have not been tested for some time, and for maintainers whose current backup and restore procedures do not allow for the restoration of system data into a clean install of CommCare, now would be a good time to revisit those procedures in preparation for this upgrade.

Further announcements and instructions will be posted on this forum in the coming weeks.
