User restriction

Hello commcare users, I have two quick questions that am seeking help and
clarity about,
i) Is it possible to restrict mobile users from accessing and seeing some
forms?
ii) I have a number of mobile users on my project and of which some run a
different application, is it possible for me to restrict them from
accessing another application?

I look forward to your great ideas.
Thanks

Hello,

i) It is possible using module filtering
https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/Module+Filtering -
the bottom of that page is specifically about doing this with user data
ii) Unfortunately it is not possible to block users on a domain from
installing an application on that domain. However you could use an approach
similar to (i) and the modules in applications based on some user data (so
that the application appeared entirely empty to those users).

Cheers,
Will

Hey Clyton,

Thanks for reaching out, I just need help over how to restrict some mobile
users from accessing some modules and forms because some times I have some
forms that are just being built and then it happens that the users can just
access them before they're deployed and rolled out. Is there any way I can
be helped?

Thanks

Hi Timothy,

There are two ways we generally help manage this.

  1. You can update to "non-starred" builds in your app using this feature:
Update Target Options - CommCare Public - CommCare Public.
That will allow you to develop new forms and modules before they are made
available as released (Starred) builds to your users.

  2. You can use the technique Will forwarded on our wiki to only allow certain
    mobile users
to see some modules or forms. This will let you build those
forms and include them "invisibly" in each release for testing until they
are ready, when the module filter can be removed.
