Sending data from server to any device

Hi all,

Is there a way in commcare to synchronize certain amount data from server
back to any data collection device?

More specifically, we are aiming to register our referral clients from the
community then transmit the data to commcare server and then finally
synchronize that data with one or more mobile devices laying in our
facilities where we can potentially receive that referral. Any solution for
this?

Best regards,

Raheel

Hi Raheel,

This is certainly possible and one of the key features of CommCare! You'll
want to take a look at the documentation for case sharing
https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/Case+Sharing.

(There are more complicated things you can do for more specific referral
workflows, but I'll let you review the docs and see if that's enough for
your use case)

Hi Raheel --

I handle a commcare app that is primarily focused on its ability to create
referrals and track the success of those referrals.

We actually have a few separate levels of them... from outreach to VCT
testing, and then (when necessary) from VCT testing to ART treatment.

The first level is when outreach workers, carrying a commcare phone, choose
entries that triggers a creation of a referral to a clinic. The result, in
technical terms is that the app creates a "child case" of a different case
type (called type "referral") than the case that was recording this
originating outreach discussion. Then, over in the clinic, the person is
holding a commcare phone that is in fact a different "application" (made
within the same commcare project space) ... which display all of the cases
of type "referral." When that client walks into the clinic, the clinic
worker looks at that little list of cases and chooses the one that was
created for that exact person. (they can find them in the list by having it
display their name, or their mobile number, or a UIC code, etc.) When
they open that one up and complete the form, then you know for a fact that
that was one successful referral. If that referral is never opened and
completed in a form (or closed), then you know that was a referral that
never got completed.

It is a bit tricky to understand some of the ins and outs of case sharing
and the "case sharing groups" that make them work. Especially if you have a
few specific needs that aren't the easy-as-pie example above. If you have
the time to learn and practice with case sharing, it should do the trick.

Can please someone respond to my query.

Hi Raheel,

I am not sure if you saw Cory's earlier response, but your request is
certainly possible using something called case sharing. Case sharing allows
multiple users, and multiple devices to communicate information and data in
the way you are requesting.

For example, if you have a mobile worker who is in the community and uses
CommCare to register a referral client, they can send that data to the
CommCare server. Any other user who is in the same case sharing group will
then be able to view that case data on their device, whether it be in your
facilities or anywhere else.

To learn more about how to do this, I would encourage you to visit this
page. https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/Case+Sharing

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks!
