Quarantined Form Problem

Could you please advise whether it is possible to review and correct a quarantined form directly on the mobile device and then resubmit it to the server (CommCare HQ)? Additionally, is it possible to view or access quarantined forms from the CommCare HQ side for troubleshooting and analysis purposes?

Quarantined forms occur when there's an issue preventing form submission to CommCare HQ. Here's what you need to know:

Reviewing and Correcting on Mobile

Unfortunately, you cannot directly edit quarantined forms on the mobile device. Once a form is quarantined, it's isolated due to submission errors and cannot be modified or resubmitted from the app in its current state.

Viewing Quarantined Forms on Mobile

While you can't edit them, you can view quarantined forms on the mobile device:

  • Go to the menu (three dots or hamburger icon)
  • Look for "Quarantined Forms" or "Form Record" section
  • You can view the form data to understand what was captured

Accessing from CommCare HQ

Quarantined forms do not automatically sync to CommCare HQ because they failed to submit. However, you have options:

  1. Recovery on Mobile: If the quarantine was due to a temporary issue (like connectivity), you may be able to restore/resubmit forms once the underlying issue is resolved. Check if there's a restore or resubmit option in the quarantined forms section.

  2. Manual Extraction: The form data exists in the device's local storage. For troubleshooting, you may need to:

    • Use CommCare's logging features to capture form details
    • In some cases, extract form XML files directly from the device for analysis

Troubleshooting Steps

To address quarantined forms:

  • Check error messages associated with the quarantined form on the device
  • Verify the app version is up to date
  • Ensure case lists and form definitions are properly synced
  • Check for validation errors in the form logic

If you're experiencing persistent quarantining issues or need to recover specific form data, please submit a support ticket at Jira Service Management with:

  • The error message shown with the quarantined form
  • Your app ID and domain name
  • Screenshots of the quarantined form section
  • Details about when/how the forms became quarantined

This will allow the support team to investigate the root cause and help with data recovery if needed.
