Problem with case sharing!

Good morning all!

I set up case sharing for our app last week. There is only one app, and one
module in that app with case management, and only one case sharing group.
All three of the members of the team using the app are in the group. For
some reason though, one of them tried to register a new case yesterday and
had an error message about not being able to do so because she was in the
wrong number of groups or something. Unfortunately she is in the field
today so I am unable to attach a screen cap of the message. Anyone know why
this might be happening? I have read through the help pages and checked all
the settings I ca think of and I don't know why it isn't working...

Many thanks!

Erika

Erika,

Without knowing specific details I'd guess that either your user's case
sharing settings are incorrect (IE user not in a case sharing group or in
two) or your user needs to sync (syncing is required for a user to receive
new or updated case sharing group information).

If you know the user's username and password you could also login as the
user yourself - if there is a case sharing group configuration problem then
you will be able to reproduce the issue easily.

Cheers,
Will

Hi Will,

Thanks for the answer. The user is Maria Kgatla. I unfortunately don't have
her password. She is definitely in the case sharing group, and as there is
no other group, she cannot be in two. I think she has synced and that she
now has access to all the cases, even those registered by the other two
users. Unfortunately she is in the field today without internet access s I
can't get her to check. Any other thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

Hi Erika,

Is it possible she needs to update her application version? If she's on an
older version that doesn't use case sharing then she might get a similar
error. If not I'd wait for a screen shot of the error dialog so that you
can debug the issue more readily.

Cheers,
Will

Hi Will,

I got this from the Preview section of Commcare HQ, not from Maria's phone,
but I believe it is the same message: "The case sharing settings for your
user are incorrect. This user must be in exactly one case sharing group.
Please contact your supervisor."
I am with another member of the team today, so I will see if she is having
trouble too. I cannot figure out what is wrong at this point.

  • Maria is in the group.
  • There is no other group she can be in.
  • Case sharing is selected for the group.
  • She is able to complete the follow up form no problem, and it is
registering cases that she can't do.
  • There is only one application, and in it only one module with case
    management.

I will let you know if the other two are having the same problem as soon as
I can.

Thanks,

Erika,

If you try to preview a form that uses case sharing as your web user (IE in
App Preview without using Login As) then I would expect that error message
as web users cannot be in case sharing groups.

Erika,

If you try to preview a form that uses case sharing as your web user (IE
in App Preview without using Login As) then I would expect that error
message as web users cannot be in case sharing groups.

Will

Hi Will,

I got this from the Preview section of Commcare HQ, not from Maria's
phone, but I believe it is the same message: "The case sharing settings
for your user are incorrect. This user must be in exactly one case sharing
group. Please contact your supervisor."
I am with another member of the team today, so I will see if she is
having trouble too. I cannot figure out what is wrong at this point.

  • Maria is in the group.
  • There is no other group she can be in.
  • Case sharing is selected for the group.
  • She is able to complete the follow up form no problem, and it is
registering cases that she can't do.
  • There is only one application, and in it only one module with case
    management.

I will let you know if the other two are having the same problem as soon
as I can.

Thanks,
Erika

Hi Will,

Thanks. She definitely has case sharing as I updated it on her phone
myself. I will get a screen shot as soon as possible and see though.

Hi Erika,

Is it possible she needs to update her application version? If she's
on an older version that doesn't use case sharing then she might get a
similar error. If not I'd wait for a screen shot of the error dialog so
that you can debug the issue more readily.

Will

Hi Will,

Thanks for the answer. The user is Maria Kgatla. I unfortunately
don't have her password. She is definitely in the case sharing group, and
as there is no other group, she cannot be in two. I think she has synced
and that she now has access to all the cases, even those registered by the
other two users. Unfortunately she is in the field today without internet
access s I can't get her to check. Any other thoughts?

Thanks for the help!
Erika

Erika,

Without knowing specific details I'd guess that either your user's
case sharing settings are incorrect (IE user not in a case sharing group or
in two) or your user needs to sync (syncing is required for a user to
receive new or updated case sharing group information).

If you know the user's username and password you could also login as
the user yourself - if there is a case sharing group configuration problem
then you will be able to reproduce the issue easily.

Will

Good morning all!

I set up case sharing for our app last week. There is only one app,
and one module in that app with case management, and only one case sharing
group. All three of the members of the team using the app are in the group.
For some reason though, one of them tried to register a new case yesterday
and had an error message about not being able to do so because she was in
the wrong number of groups or something. Unfortunately she is in the field
today so I am unable to attach a screen cap of the message. Anyone know why
this might be happening? I have read through the help pages and checked all
the settings I ca think of and I don't know why it isn't working...

Many thanks!

Erika
