New "web apps feature"

Hi all -- I was excited to see the new web apps feature being announced.
That could really be relevant to some of our clinics in my project
epm-thai. I signed up for early use, using the form on the website.

I also sent some questions in to the email address that was offered on the
blog post -- updates@dimagi.com -- but that email method seems to be broken
and bounced back at me. I submitted an issue ticket about that.

Since that got delayed, I thought it could not hurt to ask here:

1-- has anyone had experience with the new web apps feature (which seems to
replace 'cloudcare'? Any reviews?

2-- More specific... one of my apps uses the barcode scanner feature in its
forms. Works great on the phone, which of course uses the phone's built in
camera. But what if the user was on a laptop using Web Apps... would that
barcode scanner work? Does the web app access the laptop's built-in webcam?

Thanks for any gossip!

Eric

Hi Eric,

Unfortunately web apps don't yet support the barcode question. Normally
bar code scanners that are connected to a computer actually act like a
keyboard. This means they can some barcode and then type that into a
textbox. If you'd like to use a barcode scanner with web apps, you could
just use a text question (instead of a barcode question) in your form.

Thanks,
Sheel
