# Error with Cases as Choices (invalid xml value)

Hi, I'm following the instructions outlined in the [Cases as Choices](https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/Multiple+Choice+Questions+with+Cases+as+Choices) and am able to populate the cases as choices 👍.

However, upon selecting it I get an error occurred message 👎😞

Invalid XML Value for Select Option

```

What am I missing?

What parameter are you using as the **Value Field** for the choices?

Ah, that's the issue. In the [casedb virtual document](https://github.com/dimagi/commcare-core/wiki/casedb) the attribute to reference is

@case\_id

rather than

@caseid
