Digest for commcare-users@googlegroups.com - 1 Message in 1 Topic

Hi Dr Tukaram,

Good to hear from you!

I just took a look at your application. The pregnancy case list should
already be searchable by Village Name and Mother Name.
Currently your case list should display Mother Name, Husband Name, Village
Name. Those are a lot of data elements to display on a small screen. It is
possible that the phone is not showing some of these because they don't fit
in the screen.

Would it be alright if we make Husband Name a hidden, but searchable field.
If we do this, the phone should display Mother Name and Village Name. There
should be room then to display the number of weeks since the last visit.
I can make these updates for you once you confirm.

Are the phones switching off due to battery issues. It might be worth it to
see if you can get in touch with a nearby Nokia Care Center?

Dear All,

Greetings of the Day from IIHMR, Jaipur India!

Under IIHMR MCTS Mobile Application, we have 10 ANMs selected for
pilot study. The phones used are Nokia Java phones with QWERTY key
pads.

So I request the group members to help me out in the following
problems ...

  1. How can I change the data elements which is displayed in the search
    module?
(Suppose I want to sort the list of beneficiaries by Village or by
    mother
name or by last date of visit)

  2. Please provide me solution for the mobile phones, as they are slow
    in
functioning and sometimes switches off while working for a longer time.

Waiting for your reply.

Dr Tukaram,

To chime in here: I've experienced the issue before where the phones turned
themselves off during certain events (for those phones it was when they
tried to access the internet), and we identified the problem as counterfeit
batteries. The location where workers were having their batteries charged
instead swapped out the authentic batteries with other batteries.

Dr Tukaram,

You can see the Tutorial on our Helpsite for instructions on setting up the
case list as per your preferences.

https://help.commcarehq.org/display/commcarepublic/Case+List+and+Case+Detail+View+Configuration

To recap: Currently your case list should already display Mother Name,
Husband Name, Village Name.

Instructions:

  • Click on the Applications Tab and Select your Application
  • Select the Pregnancy Module from the left hand side menu of
    forms/modules.
  • In the main window of the Pregnancy Module, select the tab called Case
    List

Actions you might want to take from there:

  • Make one of these searchable/hidden instead of displayed on the list.
To do this, uncheck the data element/property in the column that says
"list", Detail is still checked so the ANM will still see these in the
    detail screen.
  • To make any data element hidden but searchable, add the data element
by typing in the text box below the list. The gray section are all the
selected data elements. The white section is the list of options you have.
For ex. you can begin by typing in husband name, then press the + symbol to
add to the list. Add a checkmark to the list column for the new husband
name data element you just added (unselect the detail column). In the
column that says format, click on the arrow and select Search Only.

Make sure you save the changes. Then, ,make a new build, install and test
your change.

Do send us any follow-up questions if you have them!

To add our experience in using the case list:

  1. We identified the three "unique" identifiers for a patient and made them
    displayed on the case list.

We divided our data points into "visually identifiable" data elements and
"verbally identifiable" data elements.

First set can be used by the field workers to view and short list the
patient, for the second set the user could be trained to "ask" the mother
for "additional" identifiers like "what is your mobile number?" or in a
rural setting what is your husbands name and such other relevant questions.

  1. Additionally, we made "other" fields like the phone number of the
patient, husband name, a unique id searchable in the "search" field
provided in the case list. This we did by adding fields defined in the
steps highlighted below, and marking them as "for search only". This
allowed us in our usecase to identify 3 fields as displayed fields and "n"
number of fields as searchable. For instance, there could be two "Meera's"
in the case list, but each of them might have a different cell number.

  2. The search field in the case list is also barcode scannable. We found we
could create a QR Code of a unique identifier (GD-ID) we gave to our study
participants, and we plan on scanning this identifier in the case list to
    directly select the person.

Regards

Manish
