CommCare Data Export Tool with Repeat Groups

  1. How does the CommCare Data Export Tool work with Repeat Groups? I am
using the Excel Spreadsheet configuration and what to know how to collect
    my repeat group data.

  2. Let’s say I have a repeat group of information collected in form A.
Let’s say the user wants to update this information, and add more to it
(such as a medication list). I want to display the questions answered in
form A with the users answers in some form B. This way, the user can edit
any information. From your help site:

    1. In the case configuration, pre-load all of the questions with the
values from the case, and make sure that everything updates the case. By
doing this, when the user opens the form all of the fields will be
pre-populated with the previous values. They just need to change whichever
value they want to correct, and all of the case properties will be updated
      with the most recent value.

What do you mean by pre-load? Would that be the default value of the
question?

  1. Is there any way I can pull up the answers from form A (repeat group)?
I can’t seem to save question IDs inside the repeat group as “Case
Properties”, so I am unsure how to access them.

Thanks for your help on understanding how Repeat Groups work with case
properties and the data export tool.

Hi Hakan

I’m a bit confused about what you’re trying to do. You can’t use the export
tool to edit any data. It’s purely for exporting it. There is a section on
the wiki about export data from repeat groups:
https://confluence.dimagi.com/display/commcarepublic/Data+Export+Tool%3A+Tips+and+Tricks#DataExportTool:TipsandTricks-Exportrepeatgroups

In terms of editing values in a form, there is no way to do that on a
phone. You can edit data in a case on the phone which I think is what
you’re describing. In order to do this you must first save the data to the
case. Saving repeat group data to a case is a bit difficult since there is
on way for CommCare to know which of the repeat’s you want to save data
for. If you want to save data for all of them then you need to add fields
to the form that concatenate all the repeat group data together e.g. using
the ‘concat’ function.
