Case Activity Report vs. Case Export Download File

Hey,

For one of the domains I'm doing reporting on, the total (158) in the "Ever"
column of the CCHQ Case Activity Report differs from the number (318) of
open cases shown in the exported case, referral, user file (using the "all
open" download constraint). What is the cause of this difference? Is there
any additional constraint on the Case Activity Report? This export file had
changed recently to exclude all "demo_user" and "none" user created cases.
Does the export still exclude cases made by these users? If not, this
could account for the case difference as the "Case Activity Report" doesn't
account for these users.

Also, I think the "All Open" and "All" download constraints are switched.
When I download using the "All Open" constraint, the list of cases showing
both "true" and "false" for the "closed" column. Whereas when I download
using the "All" constraint, I get a list of only "false" cases. Do I have
the definitions messed up?

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,

Good questions! The case activity report does not include cases created by
the demo user, but the case data export does. This might as you suspect
account for the difference in total case numbers.

We plan to work on making case data export more readable/useful soon. If
any of you CommCare users have ideas for what you'd like to see, feel free
to bring them up here!

Thanks,
Amelia

Hi Nick,

Some updates on your original points/questions:

Thanks for bringing up the discrepancy between downloading "all" cases and
"all open" cases. They should now work as expected: "all" exports both
open and closed cases, while "all open" just exports currently open cases.

The case export tool currently does not export demo data. On the case
activity report, the "Ever" count accurately represents all currently open
cases. The number in the case export download of "all open" should now
match that.

Thanks,
Amelia

Hi Users,

Just to clarify, there were two bugs here, and they were introduced at
different times. They are now both fixed, but I want to explain in case this
affects some of you.

(1) There was the simple issue that "All Open" and "All" were switched; they
were doing the opposite of what they claimed. As far as I can tell this has
been true for a few months, since the option to include closed cases was
introduced in the first place.

(2) The other issue was a little more serious: because of a change in our
database index that I made between one and two weeks ago, when you looked at
just the open cases (which were confusingly labeled as "all" cases because
of the bug above), every case that should appear appeared twice making it
appear as if there were twice as many cases as there were in reality.

I'm sorry for these two careless errors and if they affected you in any way
and there's anything I can do to help, please feel free to contact me
directly.

Best,
Danny
